In the event the internet first started, or first came into the general consciousness of most people in America it was not much of anything. I can remember playing some very rudimentary games in line with the Nickelodeon tv show The Secret World of Alex Mack. I remember reading some really terrible articles about several of my favorite bands. But mostly, I remember being nonplussed about the whole thing. What was this thing going to do for me other than have me hunched over a desk reading low quality junk?

Well obviously the jury is no longer out on the web and we all now and seemingly will forever live on the web. It has made communication easier but in addition fundamentally different. The same may very well be said about shopping and researching subjects of interest. It has made a wealth and selection of entertainment completely free. This last one is likely the largest shift for me personally and then for a amount of people I know also. This is only because aspects such as the movie theater begin to lose their luster when you find that you can watch free full movies online. It becomes tough to rationalize the $12 price tag most theaters are charging currently when you could get new free movies online. Not that the largeness of the theater does not have its charms. If I can watch movies online (Main Page) documentaries online, like those made by PBS, why would I bother having a television let alone paying ever rising cable costs?

The Web is a vast wonderland of entertainment available any time you want it with little to know cost at all. There's a bad element to all of this of course, mostly which it has become increasingly difficult for artists and entertainers to get paid for the work that they're doing. Still there is definitely an upside also. With the ease it takes to put funny videos online or your weird short films online nearly anybody can release their work and have it seen by a wide variety of men and women. As a result people are willing to check out things they might never have seen back once they were seriously considering how exactly to best utilize their precious entertainment money.

I think at this point it's best for the entire world to check out a lot of distinct things on the net from free indie films to short films, but to also take the leap and hit up the theater every now and again and even occasionally buy a DVD. This seems like the top way to keep the films I want coming and keep myself informed.
